Food horrible and way overpriced. There are too many good BBQ places in KC that are great. I would go there instead of paying $25 for the food here. Usually has good food. This is their Thursday special only. I have had no complaints about their food at other times.
I was pleased with the few interactions with the staff, from the cashier at the cage to the security officer at the entrance, they were all friendly and courteous. Next time I visit, I will definitely have to try the Buffet.
I enjoy visiting casinos when traveling (being I now live in the casino-free state of Texas, it only happens when I travel out of state), and over the years have been to every casino in Kansas City when visiting family and friends.
This was my first visit to Hollywood Casino, and despite it being the afternoon on a weekday, the place was moderately busy. Being I only get to Kansas City only a couple times a year, I decided to forego a loyalty card, and just play the slots.
I had an enjoyable time, and for penny slots, got a decent payout from a couple of the machines I played (I didn’t win all my investment back, but this is a casino, and they can’t lose money in payouts).
I love Hollywood. It's the cleanest casino around. All the staff are amazing, especially "Bear" the slot attendant!! Stephanie and Jesus in valet are equally awesome. Can't forget Mary at the players club. I don't play anywhere else.
One thing that made me knock a star off, however, is that there were a number of games with sticky buttons and such, as well as some "display buttons" that didn't display anymore. Also the food seemed a bit overpriced. I can get a better hamburger elsewhere for the same price.
Very clean and spacious casino. The people who work there are very nice and helpful. They have all the games I like to play and they are the closest casino to my home and work. I wish they had a hotel, but I can't hold that against them.
All I played were the lower bet machines (think penny, nickel or quarter per credit) and most of the slots that I played on were multi-line, which have better odds almost by definition. Not sure about the "tight" slots others are complaining about. There are also a few video poker games (But definitely more slots) if you like those. Some of the games had minimum bets that didn't reflect on the "price per credit" more prominently displayed on the game, so keep that in mind. That is probably the game designers, and not the casino, that designs it that way.
